Carnie and Lou, the secondary characters from Groom aren't having it.
So, I give you, my loyal readers, a sneak peek into book two...
Enjoy!
Excerpt:
Six Sentence Sunday- Clothing Optional
The Blurb:
On the rebound, Brie is thrilled at the idea of a vacation on the beaches of Florida. It will be especially great since it is with two men who are absolutely irresistible…and equally unattainable. Murphy and his boyfriend are offering the escape and maybe, if she spends enough time with them, she will be able to resist wanting to strip them every time she sees them. Murphy has always been oddly attracted to his best pal, Brie. But he has never touched a woman in that way. When his lover and boyfriend Andy suggests they make love to her, that she is perfect for them to experience a ménage, Murphy wonders if he is not enough somehow.
But the temptation of having them both…When they get to the resort and find out that “Clothing Optional” should have been in bold print on the brochure, the three of them are in for the weekend of their lives.

Hey, did ya see the front page?
My best friend and her daughter were on the front page of the Star Beacon today!!
"Every day, Jordan Brown marched up the steps of a brick-and-mortar school and into a classroom.
But something was wrong, mom Michelle Brown said.
“Jordan had all these problems at school, problems we couldn’t pin down or work out,” she said. “All the teachers thought she had attention deficit disorder, but that didn’t seem right to me. Later we found out Jordan simply had a lazy eye.”
Michelle Brown, who was taking college courses to become a teacher, made a big decision for her daughter. In second grade, Jordan, now 12, left the public school system and became a student with the Ohio Connections Academy, an online school with 50 students in Ashtabula County.
Michelle Brown warns people that OCA is a new way of learning, not at all like home schooling.
“Don’t associate e-learning with home schooling,” she said. “For example, Jordan has a ‘learning coach,’ her grandpa, who supervises her classes each day. He is not the teacher, he is just there to keep her on task. If she has a question about something, she has a teacher to ask.”
In fact, Michelle Brown became a middle school social studies teacher with OCA, which has only furthered her belief in the e-learning model.
“From a teacher’s perspective, I can spend individual one-on-one time with each student, which is so great,” she said. “We have the freedom to give students that one on one time and each student gets what he or she needs.”
Jordan Brown said she doesn’t miss the pressure of public schools or the social interaction.
“I go to way more social events and field trips than students at public schools,” she said. “But I get to go to class in my slippers and jammies. No one judges me. My classes are about the content and learning, not about what I am wearing and who I am dating. Everyone is equal.”
Jordan says she sees OCA students from across the state at field trips and scheduled activities.
OCA spokesperson Mark Rickel said students who need flexibility with their schedules often choose e-learning.
“A student in dance or theater may need flexibility in their schedule,” he said. “Some students have health needs and need flexibility because they might miss a lot of school. This is an opportunity to take their classes from home.”
For more information on OCA and e-learning, call 800-382-6010 or visit www.connectionsacademy.com."
For those of you wondering, yes, that is the school that two of my kids attend as well. Great school.
Just had to brag. Check out the full article here.

On Weddings...
You have your sweet-meet's--
The ones who meet in a romantic and fun way right from the start.
You have your old friends to lovers.
You have your enemies to lovers.
There are more ways for a couple to start out than books that I could write in one lifetime.
And yet...
So many people spend their whole lives looking for that happily ever after. So few find the One.
Makes the ones who actually get so far as to trip down the altar even more special, really. How many hurdles and hoops must you jump before you make it to that altar? How much stronger does that make the relationship against the various slings and arrows of life that are yet to come?
So, today, Jamie and Dennis...I applaud you for making it to today. For loving each other enough to say, "I do."
Best of luck in your lives together. May each day be an adventure, full of more laughs than tears, and may you find more strength together than you ever had apart.
Love ya, sis. Congrats.

The Secret to a longer life...
A lot of you eat right. You might exercise. Some of you might not drink diet soda because it can give you cancer. Everyone has something that they do in an attempt to make a couple more trips around the sun.
But I know the secret, yes--secret!, to living a longer life.
For a limited time only (or forever, depending on how long blogger keeps this blog up. One or the other) you can find the secret here.
How much will the secret cost you? Many of you are asking this question. Some places charge hundreds, even thousands of dollars for the secret to a longer life.
Live your dreams... |
Yes, I said FREE.
What do you have to do?
Well, just keep reading!
Sound too easy? I know, it does. But it is really that simple.
Are you ready?
Here goes:
The secret to a longer life is...
Fill every day with as much crazy, memory making, side achingly funny, heart achingly wonderful, sometimes tear-filled memories possible. Yes, live your life to it's fullest. Dare to go after your dreams. Dream bigger. Chase rainbows and tornadoes.
Have an adventure.
My theory is that when your life flashes before your eyes at the very end, if you have done all of that list, you will have a long instant recap to watch. Tons of things that make the memory reel.
And you have then extended your life...
Plus, you probably had a helluva time doing it.
Happy writing!

RIP Mr. Bradbury
I just mentioned Ray Bradbury in my blog a few days ago when discussing the writing process. It fascinated me, and probably always will, that his writing process involved sitting in his swivel chair, turning left, then right...glancing at all the things around his desk until--KAPOW. And once he saw the thing that sparked the story, he wrote.
In one of my stories, I quoted Something Wicked, one of my favorites from him.
“Where do they come from? The dust. Where do they go? The grave. Does blood stir their veins? No, the night wind. What ticks in their head? The worm. What speaks through their mouth? The toad. What sees from their eye? The snake. What hears with their ear? The abyss between the stars.” - Chapter 38, Something Wicked This Way Comes, Ray Bradbury, 1962
Ray Bradbury had the unique gift to take a few words, string them together, and make delicious shivers of horrified delight ripple across my skin. I have a quote from him hanging above my desk, I believe you can see a picture including it someplace near this sentence. He was an inspiration to authors, a gifted writer and now...
At the age of 91, he is gone.
Born in 1920, according to Wikipedia, in Illinois, Mr. Bradbury was descended from a Salem witch and learned his love of books early, starting out with greats like Poe. Upon his death, everyone has taken a moment to report it and, much to my amusement, it is all in Wikipedia already (they don't let the dust settle over at Wikipedia.)
"The New York Times' obituary stated that Bradbury was "the writer most responsible for bringing modern science fiction into the literary mainstream." The Los Angeles Times credited Bradbury with the ability "to write lyrically and evocatively of lands an imagination away, worlds he anchored in the here and now with a sense of visual clarity and small-town familiarity". Bradbury's grandson, Danny Karapetian, stated that Bradbury's works had "influenced so many artists, writers, teachers, scientists, and it's always really touching and comforting to hear their stories". Several celebrity fans of Bradbury paid tribute to the author by stating the influence of his works on their own careers and creations." (See entire article here.)
But for me, I can say this. I loved his work. If ever a story I tell gets as many people talking as some of his did, I will know that I did my job as a storyteller. Bradbury was quoted at one point to have said that he sought his own immortality with his work.
Just a guess, sir, but I think you got it.
Rest in peace, Ray Bradbury. August 22, 1920 – June 5, 2012
